Our framework is based on the consensus of the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions, which introduced an integrated staging and grading system for periodontitis. This system provides a structured approach to assessing disease severity, complexity, and risk of progression. We apply these principles in our simulated cases to ensure realistic, evidence-based training. Visualisation is done via Perio-Tools.
Periodontal therapy is typically structured in four steps, with Steps 1 and 2 often initiated together.
Acute management – Urgent cases (e.g., abscesses, necrotizing conditions) are treated immediately, usually before or alongside Step 1–2.
Step 1 – Etiologic assessment
Step 2 – Cause-related therapy
Step 3 – Corrective therapy (Surgical and Restorative phases)
Step 4 – Maintenance therapy
